Why I Don’t Run Ads on JoinMeAbroad.com

And why I think more sites should do the same.
Ads, ads everywhere! It’s not a pet peeve — it’s a full-blown hatred.
We’ve all been there. You click on what looks like a helpful article, maybe something about finding remote work — and before the page even finishes loading, you’re hit with pop-ups, auto-playing videos, and a wall of ads.
So many sites are now so cluttered with ads, they’re basically unusable.
If I visit a site and can’t read the text, because ads or pop-ups are blocking the content, I’m gone. I don’t care how good your product or writing might be.
I’m advertised to constantly. I don’t need more ads. I need less.
That’s why when I built Join Me Abroad, I made a decision early on: no ads.
The benefit of running ads is what? A few pennies per thousand views. Meanwhile, your readers get annoyed.Your message gets buried under distractions. And your site looks cheap. Is that really the impression you want to make?
For me, I’d rather earn income by offering something real — downloadable guides and services that actually help people. Maybe I’ll include affiliate links (on their own page or section) for tools or items I personally use and trust. But every part of that is intentional, transparent, and focused on usefulness.
That’s the kind of internet I want to be part of.
Staying ad-free also means staying focused.
No flash, no chaos, no weird tracking scripts watching your every move.
It’s just… you, me, and the content.
That clarity is part of the mission.
If I’m encouraging people to live with more freedom, less noise, and more intention — why would I clutter my own site with the exact opposite?
I built this site, and this business, because I believe people deserve better — better information, better support, and better spaces to dream about what’s next.
